It all began on a rainy Cape Town day when my children were craving something sweet. Venturing out into the storm was impossible, so I dusted off an old “tameletjie” recipe and set a pot to boil.

At the time, I was juggling a demanding IT career — one eye on my laptop, the other on the bubbling sugar. The result? A burnt disaster. Refusing to give up, I threw in a few more ingredients, and by the end I had something halfway between a tameletjie, a toffee, and a fudge. My kids loved it — and when I took the leftovers to work, so did my colleagues.

That small moment of indulgence sparked something bigger. My colleagues — health-minded, busy professionals — wanted treats made with real, honest ingredients, not additives or fillers. Their enthusiasm reignited the entrepreneur in me, long buried under corporate deadlines.

Sweet Temptations was officially born at the Lourensford Market in Somerset West in 2010. The toffees sold out within hours, and suddenly my midnight kitchen experiments became a full-time calling. By day, I was still in IT; by night, a sugar alchemist, experimenting with batches that sometimes failed and sometimes became magic.

My daughters soon joined in: Susan, my after-school sous-chef, and Rosetta, a trained chef who traded fine dining for the sticky joy of handcrafted sweets. Dad became Chief Problem-Solver, cutting toffees, building display stands, and accepting that the house now smelled permanently of butter and sugar.

Our living room turned into a hand-wrapping line filled with laughter, chatter, and the occasional complaint about sore wrists. In 2011, we took a leap and showcased our sweets at the Good Food & Wine Show — a turning point that placed Sweet Temptations on the national stage.

Awards followed: Eat In’s Best New Confectionery Product and Entrepreneur Champion of the Year from the National Small Business Chamber. But the real reward came from customers who told us our sweets reminded them of childhood — or simply made their day a little brighter.

As the business grew, so did our creations: soft, nutty and nut-free nougats; butter-rich toffees; and Guzzle & Wolf Gourmet Popcorn, a playful, elegant brand loved at weddings and corporate events alike. Later came our luxurious Turkish delight range, crafted without gelatine and featuring bold flavours like Coffee and Apple Sour — perfect for wine pairings.

Through every flavour and every late-night batch, one thing has remained constant: we don’t just make sweets — we make moments, memories, and a little bit of magic.

At Sweet Temptations, we are committed to using only the freshest ingredients and the finest craftsmanship to manufacture quality luxurious nougat, decadent soft toffees, gourmet popcorn and traditional Turkish delight.

SWEET PAWS

In 2025, we extended our love for sweetness to those with wagging tails. Sweet Paws — our rescue initiative — helps abandoned dogs find shelter, warmth, and a second chance. Guided by our cheeky rescue mascot Max, we pour the same care and creativity into every paw we help as we do into every batch we make.
